- Press Club of Cleveland 2008 Awards, First Place in Local/Community Coverage for my two-parter "Suspect Down" and "Within the
Bounds of Law" on
the police shooting of a black teenager.
Charu Gupta is an award-winning journalist who has
investigated the criminal justice system, social ills, and elected officials. She now works as an independent communications consultant in Cleveland, advising non-profits that focus on social justice issues.
Charu's reporting on Cleveland's entrenched and growing subprime/predatory lending and foreclosure problems predated most local and national attention. Her work provided the basis for subsequent accounts by international news outlets, including Australia's investigative TV show, "Four Corners," and the Danish Broadcasting Corp., Denmark's largest broadcast news outlet.
Charu has a Master's degree in journalism from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
Charu lives in Oberlin, with her husband, Pawan Dhingra, a sociology and Asian American Studies professor at Oberlin College, and their two young children.
